ACT

Suffering is an unavoidable part of life.  Yet we humans often seem to exaggerate and extend our suffering far beyond its natural limits.  Our ability to use language to relive the past or forecast the future allows us to do that.  After a while we begin to suffer as much from trying to avoid our problems and pain than we ever would from the problem alone.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps people learn ways to let go of suffering. ACT helps you learn to become more mindful; to get clear about what really matters to you, and to commit to living a full, vibrant life. One of the things I've noticed about clients who practice what they learn in ACT is that their ability to cope with and handle the challenges that life has to offer improves quickly and dramatically.  ACT is not about trying to create a perfect world, it's simply learning how to experience life more fully, without as much struggle, and with energy and commitment to what really matters in your life.

Scientific studies have shown that ACT is likely to be an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, dealing with chronic pain, obsessive compulsive disorder and other psychological problems.
