What is Neurotherapy?
Neurotherapy is the combination of EEG Biofeedback and talk therapy. EEG Biofeedback is also known as neurofeedback. Neurofeedback is a way of training the brain’s electrical activity (EEG) to improve overall brain function. EEG signals are measured by pasting a small metal sensor to the scalp that read the brains EEG activity just like an EKG sensor measures the electrical activity of the heart. With traditional neurofeedback the EEG signal is then translated to some kind of audiovisual feedback, most commonly a video game. The game is controlled by changes in the EEG signal, so improving how you play the game improves EEG function and helps the brain become more efficient.
Neurofeedback has been used clinically for more than 40 years and its effectiveness is proven by decades of clinical practice and hundreds of scholarly research articles (link to http://noviancounseling.wix.com/bibliography). Neurofeedback is recognized as an evidenced based treatment for ADD/ADHD and clinical experience shows it to be equally effective in the treatment of many other problems including anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep problems, headaches, chronic pain, and much more. How can neurofeedback effectively treat so many different problems? Because all of these problems are brain based and neurofeedback simply helps brains work better. When the brain works better, so does the mind.

LENS Neurofeedback System
Dr. Streetman uses the LENS neurofeedback system. LENS is an acronym for Low Energy Neurofeedback System. Like other NF systems LENS measures the electrical activity of your brain (EEG) using a small sensor placed on the scalp. After precisely measuring your EEG, LENS software delivers a very low energy radio signal through the sensor to your scalp. This is not an electrical signal but a very low energy radio signal precisely tuned to your brain’s EEG. This signal disrupts EEG activity stuck in unhealthy patterns, giving the brain the opportunity to “reboot” itself. Amazingly, once set free from these unhealthy patterns, the brain knows how to remap and restructure itself in positive, adaptive ways. This leads to remarkable improvements in mood, memory, and overall cognitive function. Symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADD/ADHD and other problems associated with those stuck and unhealthy patterns are quickly and effortlessly eliminated. Many clients find they can reduce or eliminate the need for medication with the help of neurofeedback. Of course, the decision to do that should always be made in consultation with your doctor. Effective and lasting results are typically achieved with the LENS system in only 8-10 sessions. After an initial 75 minute intake appointment, follow up sessions are only 30 minutes or less. Treatment with traditional NF systems can be very effective. However, this treatment can require 30-40 sessions or more and requires a client to actively attend to audio/visual feedback for 30 minutes in each session. The time and costs involved in this kind of treatment make it impractical for many. The LENS systems has been in use for more than 15 years with more than 100,000 clients served and nearly 1,000,000 sessions provided by clinicians around he world, there is no report of long term harm from the use of this system.
